For the month of June I will be hanging new work of black and white music photography at Night Light! Lots of local love and touring bands alike. Please join me for the opening night, the first Friday of June!
There is a tangible and physical creation process in film photography. It becomes a totally different story than what I regularly contribute to music blogs like the Mercury. I take raw moments and craft them further, using actual touch and precision. The many variables at hand come out in a visual representation of the experience as a whole. Black and white film shows something more in the photograph. With the weight and texture of grain and the subtly of tones there is a depth in the image that offers more than the initial visual impact alone. Hand-coloring my prints came into the process as an expression of feeling. There is both light play and swaying of perception in it's addition. It further enables expression of mood, of light, and the unique collaborations of energy from that original moment. The art of film photography creates the opportunity to express not only what was in front of the lens, but what that moment felt like as it's being processed.
